Police have detained a person on charges of raping and murdering his six-year-old sister-in-law in Chittagong. Md Shakil, 19, was picked up from his Rangiparha residence at Halishahar in the port city. His in-laws also reside in the same locality.The body of 6-year-old Sonia Akter was recovered on Dec 15 from Halishahar’s Physical Training College neighbourhood.
Chittagong police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Babul Akter said the accused had confessed to his crime in statements before court.
Shakil’s mother-in-law had scolded him several days ago and he had murdered Sonia in retaliation, Shakil reportedly told police during initial quizzing.
The ADC said Shakil raped his sister-in-law on Dec 13 when his wife Runa Akter was watching television at her mother’s house. He later strangled the child.
Police said Shakil had admitted to putting the body in a plastic bag and dumping it in the Physical Training College area. – bdnews24.com
