Man killed in Gaibandha clash over land

A man was killed and three others injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land-related dispute at Dakir Para village in Palashbari upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Azizar Rahman, a resident of the village.

Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station Majibar Rahman said there had been a longstanding dispute between Azizar Rahman and his neighbour Anwarul Islam of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.

As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between Azizar and Anwarul when Anwarul and his men went to the disputed land to take its possession at about 10:00 am.

At one stage of altercation, men of Anwarul hit Azizar with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.

Three others, including Azizar’s wife Bulbuli Begum, were injured as they resisted the rivals.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals.

Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
