Man killed in reported ‘gunfight’ with Rab was ‘extortionist’

Dhaka – An alleged extortionist was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the city early Thursday.The deceased was identified as Aidul alias Mama Sagor, a top Textortionist of Kawarnbazar area of the city and associate of alleged top terrorist Ashik.
Operational officer of Rab-2 Yeasir Arafat said a patrol team of the force challenged a group of people in the area when the group was moving suspiciously there at about 2 am.
At one stage, they opened fire on the Rab members, forcing the elite force to fire back that triggered a gun battle.
Mama Sagor was caught in the line of fire and seriously injured while other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Rab members recovered one pistol and two rounds of bullet from the spot, Rab sources said.
