Dhaka, Aug 3 – A peasant was punched to death allegedly by his neighbour following a dispute over a trifling matter at Bangara in Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla district on Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Kalon Mia, 48, son of late Abdur Rashid Mia of the village.
Quoting locals, the officer in charge of Debidar Police Station M Mizanur Rahman said Kalon Mia was cutting a tree branch of his neighbour that fell on the roof of his house in the afternoon. Following the incident, neighbour Abdur Raof and his family members obstructed him, triggering a quarrel.
At one stage, Nure Alam, son of Abdur Raof beat and punched Kalon Mia, leaving him injured critically. When Kalon Mia’s son and daughter tried to save their father and they were also beaten by wife and daughters of Abdur Raof.
Locals rushed the injured to Debidar Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared Kalon Mia dead.
Mizan and Kamal, cousins of the deceased, said Kalon Mia had a dispute with his neighbour Raof over many issues. A case will be filed in this connection. – UNB
