Man shot dead near College Gate in Dhaka

A man was shot to death at college gate area in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The murder took place at a quarter of National Heart Institute at 8:30 am Tuesday, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar OC Abdul Momin.The deceased, 25-year old Md Sajjad Hossain Swapan, lived there with other members of his family. They hail from Narayanganj’s Sonargaon. Swapan was involved in illegal drug business, claimed the OC. He could have been killed because of rivalries.
The victim’s family however denied his involvement in illegal drug trade. “There are small tin shacks in the quarter. Some men used to bring arms there. Swapan used to resist them,” said his sister Swapna.
“Those bad men could have been behind his killing.” She said her brother was asleep at their home when some people barged in and shot him.
“Sajib and Shadhin, my two other brothers, had heard the sounds of the gun shot from another room. When they ran to Swapan’s room the killers threatened to kill them if they didn’t remain quiet,” said the bereaved sister.
Swapan, used to work as a driver, but was unemployed for a while.
His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. – bdnews24.com
