Dhaka- A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing his mentally challenged step grandfather in Rampal upazila in Bagerhat in 2014.The court also fined condemned convict Jahid Sheikh, 36, son of Mokammel Sheikh, a resident of Dakshin Sonnaysi village in the upazila, Tk 20,000.According to the prosecution Abdul Khalek Sheikh, 5, used to get government allowance for being mentally challenged. As Khalek refused to give his money to Jahid, he used to torture him.On May 30,2014, Jahid went to Khalek’s house and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot and fled away.On May 31, Md Akbar Ali, one of the relatives of the victim, filed a murder case with Rampal Police Station.Later, police arrested Jahid from Dhaka.After examining all the records and witnesses, Md Jakaria Hossain, additional district and session judge of court no-2, handed down the verdict.UNB news agency
