A man was tortured to death allegedly by his brother-in-law at Bularati village in the district Sadar upazila early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Hayat Ali, 40, son of Shahadat Sardar of Nowapara village of Debhata upazila.He along with his wife used to live in the house of his father-in-law Ajihar Sardar in Bularati village since long.Local sources said Hayat often had quarrel with his wife Monu Khatun over different issues after their marriage.Police quoting locals said Hayat beat up his wife Monu as a sequel to a family feud on Monday night.Hayat’s father Shahadat Sardar alleged that Monu’s brother Shahidul Islam and a local union parishad member Abdul Hamid tortured Hayat tying him to a chair with shackle.At one stage, Hayat died on the spot.Inspector (Investigation) Nasir Hossain of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said, on information, police recovered the shackled body that bore several injury marks from the house on Tuesday morning.The reason behind the death would be confirmed after receiving the postmortem report, said Nasir Hossain.Contacted, Alipur union ward member Abdul Hamid said he was called by Monu’s family as Hayat beat up his wife Monu but he denied his involvement in the killing. – UNB, Satkhira
