Manna put under 10-day police remand

A Dhaka court has pur Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna on a 10-day police remand in a sedition case of alleged incitement for a possible military takeover in Bangladesh.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman allowed remand sought by police when the former student leader was produced in his court on Wednesday.Manna has been implicated in a reported telephone conversation with an unidentified person published in a section of the media which it had been alleged seemed to suggest the need to influence senior generals to take over power and end the current political crisis.
In another conversation with BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka, now in the US, he said Manna allegedly tried to persuade the former to take a harsh course of action.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna was picked up by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from a house in Banani early on Tuesday and handed over to the Detective Branch 21 hours after.
He was produced in court on Wednesday.
A case was filed against Manna with the Gulshan police on Tuesday under Section 131 of Penal Code. – News Desk
