‘Manna taken from hospital before treatment ended’

Central leaders of Nagorik Oikya on Thursday complained that their leader Mahmudur Rahman Manna has been taken away from the Heart Institute Hospital before completion of the treatment and even before doing the medical tests for his ailment.
Addressing a press conference at the Bangladesh Council for Child Welfare auditorium in the city they demanded proper treatment of Manna who suffered from multiple serious ailments including heart blocks, spondalisis, and duodenal ulcer. They said earlier Manna was taken back to the central jail like this from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The Nagorik Oikya leaders complained that they did not get sympathetic treatment from the court even after submitting in detail the seriousness of Manna’s ailments. They are not thinking about proceeding before the High Court.
Reading out a statement at the press conference, member central convening committee of Nagorik Oikya said demanded proper treatment for Mahmudur Rahman Manna from a humanitarian point of view. He said refusal to keep a seriously ill patient like Manna in hospital amounted to pushing him towards death.
He said that due to subjecting him to remand for a long period of time there was serious deterioration of Manna’s physical and mental health. He was never a conspirator and the charges brought against him do not suit a man like him. Even then if the authorities feel it absolutely necessary they can arrange for his interrogation at jail gate, they said.
Others who spoke at the press conference were – Advocate Fazlul Huq Sarkar, Abu Bakar Siddique, Shahidullah Kaiser and Mominul Islam. – Staff Reporter
