Police say they have arrested the mastermind and another suspect of the murder of former Power Development Board (PDB) chairman Khijir Khan.Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam said on Wednesday night that Tarikul Islam Tarek, 23, was arrested from Tangail and Alek Bapari from Mirpur, in Dhaka.Tangail’s Delduar Police Station OC Mosharraf Hossain told bdnews24.com about the arrest of Tarek earlier in the morning.Around that time, DMP’s DC Islam, however, said he was unaware of the development.Later in the night, he confirmed the arrest of Tarek and Bapari.He claimed Tarek was a leader of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and the mastermind of Khan’s murder.Two laptops and two cameras had been seized from Tarek, he said.A Detective Branch official, requesting anonymity, told bdnews24.com that Tarek was present when Khan was murdered in his house at Badda, in Dhaka, 10 days ago.Police have called a media conference on Thursday to give details the arrests.
