Mild cold wave starts sweeping across Bangladesh

Dhaka, Jan 29 – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday forecast mild cold wave in late Magh is likely to sweep over the western parts of the country in the next 72 hours.
The mild cold wave may be on the increase for three to four days, said a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The winter season mainly lasts from December to February in Bangladesh. During this time, the northern region and river basins usually experience moderate or dense fog, and mild to moderate fog overnight in other regions throughout the country.
According to the Met office, in the last two days, the weather was rapidly warm. On Monday, maximum temperature recorded in Teknaf was 31.8 degree Celsius, while the temperature in Dhaka was 26 degrees Celsius.
The lowest temperature in the country recorded at Rajarhat of Rangpur – 11 degrees Celsius but in Dhaka the mercury did not drop below 18.7 degrees Celsius.
During late night to morning light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country. Night temperature may fall by 1 to 2 degree Celsius and day temperature may fall slightly over the country, according to Met office.
Night temperature may fall more in the northwest regions- Rajshahi, Rangpur and in the southwest division Khulna compared to other areas. Abul Kalam Mallik, a senior meteorologist of BMD said, the wind has increased from north-west. Moisture is low. In a day or two, the winter may intensify in the Rangpur region. On Wednesday, mild cold wave may hit the northern region (below 10 degrees Celsius).
On December 31 last year during the winter season was recorded at Tentulia of Panchagarh district to 5 degrees Celsius.
On Jan 8, 2014, the lowest temperature in Tentulia dropped to a record low of 2.6 degrees Celsius. – Staff Reporter
