Mirpur-Banani flyover opens March end

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said the Mirpur-Banani Flyover will open to traffic on March 27.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the flyover that day, Quader told journalists after visiting the flyover and the overpass at Banani rail crossing.
The flyover was being completed three months before deadline, he added and hoped that it will help reduce to a great extent the traffic gridlock in the capital.
“Residents of greater Mirpur will be able to reach the (Hazrat Shahjalal International) Airport within 15-20 minutes through Dhaka Cantonment without any interruption,” he said.
The 16 Engineering Construction Battalion under Special Works Organisation of Bangladesh Army is building the flyover at a cost of Tk 3.6 billion.
The project includes 1,793 metres flyover, 804 metres overpass and 561 metres link-bridge.
Hasina on December 27 last year inaugurated the Banani Overpass, a part of the project.
Engineer-in-chief of Bangladesh Army Maj Gen Habibur Rahman, Project Director Brig Gen Abu Sayeed Mohammad Masud, Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highway Division (Dhaka Zone) Habibul Haque were present during the minister’s visit.
