Mirza Fakhrul granted ad-interim bail

DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday granted ad-interim bail to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for six months in two cases of vandalism and torching vehicles during the road blockade on December 9.The court also issued two separate rules upon the government to explain within four weeks why Fakhrul “should not be granted regular bail in the cases”.
An HC bench comprising Justice Kamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Sheikh M Zakir Hossain passed the order after hearing the two petitions filed by defense lawyer Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon in the morning.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed MP moved for the BNP leader in the case.
He told journalists that Fakhrul was implicated only in the two cases out of 38 filed in connection with the December 9 blockade.
On December 24, A Dhaka court sent the BNP leader to jail in cases of vandalism and torching vehicles during the road blockade on December 9.
Vacation bench of Metropolitan Session Judge M Helal Uddin passed the order after rejecting bail plea.
Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Advocate Sanaullah Mia moved for the BNP leader in the hearing.
On December 18, Advocate Sanaullah Mia filed the bail petition in the two separate cases filed against them with Paltan and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Stations following the blockade programme.
On December 10, Mirza Fakhrul was arrested from BNP central office in city’s Nayapaltan area.
