Dhaka – A mobile court here on Wednesday fined ruling Awami League MP candidate Kamal Ahmed Majumder (Dhaka-15) Tk 25,000, for violating the election code of conduct by sticking posters on walls.Executive magistrate Tasnia Jaygirdar in a summary trial at Mirpur-10 intersection around 2pm found him guilty of violating polls codes and awarded him the sentence.
Kamal Majumder will have to suffer 15 days’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
A sitting MP, Kamal Majumder is the first contesting candidate for the 10th parliament election faced the legal music for violation of the polls code.
Meanwhile, AL candidate in Dhaka-7 constituency Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin complained of violation of the election codes against his rival independent candidate Haji Selim.
Mohiuddin on Wednesday lodged the complaint with the Election Commission for using the portrait of AL president Sheikh Hasina in the posters of Selim defying the polls codes.
EC officials (law cell) said the commission will look into the allegation in line with the Representation of the People Order 1972.
If Selim fails to comply with the commission’s order following the investigation, he will be fined Tk 20,000 to Tk 1,00,000. The election is scheduled for January 5 next. – UNB connect
