Mother, son murder: Prime accused remanded in Sylhet

A court here on Wednesday placed the prime accused in a case over the killing of a woman and her son on a 7-day remand.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hiru passed the order after police produced Nazmul Hasan, 40, before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

A team of Kotowali Police arrested Nazmul, son of late Karim Member and a resident of Muktir Chalk of Sadar upazila, from Shah Poran gate area of the city at night, said assistant police commissioner Sadek Kawser Dastagir at a press briefing in Kotwali Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.

The police official said that Nazmul borrowed money from Rokeya Begum for running a business together. Nazmul might have killed Rokeya following brawl over the money.

He also said that victim Rokeya’s daughter Raisa identified Nazmul after watching his photo.
