Move to close cancer institute condemned

Leaders of different professional and socio-cultural organizations observed programmes in protest of shifting equipments of Khulna
station of BTV and the move to close the proposed Cancer Institute of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) to Dhaka.The leaders expressed their grave concern on the issues and demanded sending of BTV equipments back to Khulna immediately and not to move machineries from Khulna Cancer Institute to Dhaka.The leaders of Greater Khulna Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC)yesterday at a press conference at Khulna Press Club sought intervention of the Prime Minister, Health Minister and Information Minister into the matter.Secretary General of the committee Sheikh Mossarraf Hossain read out the statement at the conference and alleged shifting of a camera, one set of editing panel and one video monitor from Khulna station of BTV to Dhaka last week exposed conspiracy to deprive the people of Khulna region. President of the committee Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, ex-president advocate Daud Ali, Law maker of Khulna-2 constituency and newly elected general secretary of Khulna city unit AL Mizanur Rahman Mizan, President of city unit BNP Nazrul Islam Monzu, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation and general secretary of city unit BNP Moniruzzaman Mony, among ohers, addressed the conference.The leaders demanded of the government to allocate necessary fund for setting up a full-fledged cancer institute.“We fervently appeal the government to fulfill our demand for a full-fledged TV station in Khulna as early as possible,” they said.They urged the government for not shifting two important equipments to Dhaka from the proposed Cancer Institute set up at the KMCH.Meanwhile, the leaders of Khulna Cultural Development Committee (KCDC) on Tuesday handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the Health Minister and the Information Minister through Khulna Divisional

Law maker of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan, AL leaders Kazi Enayet Hossain, Sheikh Siddiqur Rahman, among others, addressed the programme.While talking to KMCH superintendent Dr. Abdus Samad said the
government sent the machines worth about Tk 24 crore to KMCH for treatment of cancer patients in southern part of the country.
“I strongly opposed the decision when this issue came up for discussion in a high level meeting held on November 26 in the Ministry
of Health with the Health Minister Md. Nasim in the chair,” he said.The Health Minister formed a three-member committee in the meeting to submit a report if these two very important machines are at all needed for Cancer Institute of KMCH or not, he added. -BSS, Khulna
