Dhaka – BNP chairperson’s adviser Osman Farruk on Sunday criticised Finance Minister AMA Muhith for contradicting Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) over the agricultural growth in the current fiscal.Addressing a discussion on the budget bill for the fiscal 2013-14, organised by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) at its office, Farruk said: “The minister is claiming that the agricultural growth in the current fiscal is actually higher than BBS statistics is telling us… such contradiction in the government is not expected.”
Different agencies of the government should not come up with different growth rates, he added.
Farruk, also a former education minister, said: “Hope, BBS doesn’t face undue pressure from a certain ministry.”
The Finance Minister AMA Muhith in his budget speech on June 6, said: “BBS has estimated nominal GDP, real GDP, and Investment for FY 2012-13 using eight months’ data. However, the Ministry of Finance considers this provisional figure very conservative.”
