Potato growers formed a human chain at Muktarpur on the suburb of the district town on Tuesday demanding fair price of their produce
Potato cultivators from different areas of the district joined the human chain programme that began around 9 am. Potato traders also joined the programme expressing solidarity with the growers.Speaking on the occasion, farmers expressed frustration over the plummeting price of their produce and later vented their anger throwing potatoes into the Dhaleshwari river and on the roads.
Many farmers burst into tears while some others fell ill while staging demonstration.
The price of potato continues to decline amid supply glut of the popular vegetable in markets across the country.
Farmers fear that if potato price does not go up, they will have to incur heavy losses. – UNB
