Music promotes friendship: S Korean Envoy

South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Hu Kang-il has said music helps bring countries closer and the people of Bangladesh and Korea have become close friends through K-Pop (Korean-Pop) music.

“It goes without saying that music is an international language. I think music helps us understand each other; it helps bring us together, and through K-Pop we all will become friends,” said the Ambassador.

He made the remarks while addressing the 4th K-Pop festival held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy recently, said the Embassy on Sunday.

K-Pop Festival is one of the cultural exchange programmes organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, where hundreds of enthusiastic K-Pop lovers in Dhaka gather every year to celebrate and enjoy K-Pop music.

K-Pop Festival in Dhaka is a preliminary stage audition for 2018 Changwon K-Pop World Festival.

The winner of K-Pop Festival in Dhaka will get a chance to be considered to perform on the global stage and meet their favourite K-Pop stars such as BTS and TWICE, if shortlisted by K-Pop mentors in Korea.

At 4th K-Pop Festival, 14 competitive teams and individuals who were selected out of over 50 online audition applicants performed live on stage.

Since all the participants performed brilliantly and beyond excellence, selecting winners for this year was particularly difficult, said the Embassy.

Out of 14 teams and individuals, Ajrin Choudhury who sang ‘Hold My Hand by Lee Hi’ with her powerful and groovy voice won first place; Shefa Tabassum won second place with her trendy and charming dance over of ‘Gashina by Sunmi’; dance group Heaven’s LAW who blended K-Pop dance with Taekwondo moves for ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears by BTS’ won third place.

The winners received prizes of Tk 40,000, Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively.
