Dhaka, Sept 2 – Though Myanmar apparently delaying Rohingya repatriation process, it is seeking donation through its missions abroad to give what it says a helping hand in resolving the Rakhine State issue.
“To donate even a little, donors are kindly requested to deposit into one of those accounts,” a notice reads mentioning bank name, branch name and account number.
A similar notice nicknamed “Make a Donation” was seen in Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi and Myanmar Embassy in Bangladesh.
The Union Enterprise, according to Myanmar Embassy, brings together the experience and expertise of the public and private sectors and will be funded by public funds and generous donations from UN agencies, friendly countries, international and regional financial institutions as well as by donors inside the country and those who are living abroad all over the world.
“We are a public-private Union Enterprise with three main goals: providing humanitarian assistance, carrying out resettlement and rehabilitation and working for development in Rakhine State,” a document reads.
Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi acts as Chairperson and Dr Win Myat Aye the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement acts as Vice Chairman.
Since August 25, 2017, over 7 lakh Rohingyas fled Myanmar and took shelter in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh amid military crackdowns in Rakhine. – UNB
