Nazirpur Day observed in Netrakona

The Historic Nazirpur Day was observed here on Friday in a befitting manner.The day was observed recalling the supreme sacrifice of seven valiant freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom during a frontal fight with Pakistani occupation at Nazirpur under Kalmakanda upazila of the district on July 26, 1971.Netrakona District Muktijoddha Sangsad sources said the seven martyred freedom fighters were-Dijendra, Bhabatosh, Ashutosh, Year Mahmud, Fazlul Haque, Dr Abdul Aziz and Jamaluddin.The martyred freedom fighters with a view to freeing the area from the occupation of the Pakistani army carried out a commando style attack on the enemies and killed 19 soldiers and seven Razakars.During the battle, the Pakistani armed forces sent an army helicopter to Nazirpur for assisting their troops side by side with rescuing their injured soldiers and bodies of the dead.As a mark of respect to the memory of the martyred freedom fighters, Netrakona District Muktijoddha Sangsad and district administration jointly celebrate the day on July 26 as “Historic Nazirpur Day” every year since the independence.In observance of the day, Netrakona District Muktijoddha Sangsad and district administration jointly chalked out an elaborate programme.The programme included placing of wreaths at Nazirpur War Memorial and offering fateha at the graves of the martyred freedom fighters in nearby Langura area, holding Quran Khwani, Milad Mahfil, offering special prayers at Langura Jam-e-Mosque seeking divine blessings for peace and salvation of the departed souls of the martyred freedom fighters and discussion on “the glorious role of the freedom fighters”.The day’s programs formally began with placing of wreaths by local Parliament Member Mustak Ahmed Ruhi at Nazirpur War Memorial.District level officers including Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Nazmun Nahar Mannu and Police Super Jakir Hussain Khan, people’s representatives, political leaders and a large number of freedom fighters joined the programs.Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Netrakona district unit Nurul Amin along with other leaders of the Sangsad also joined the programmes. – BSS, Netrakona
