No breakthrough yet in college girl Tonu murder probe

Dhaka – Although 28 days have elapsed since the tragic incident, there is still no breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu unb news agency had reported.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the investigation agency of the sensational murder, has so far quizzed 38 people over the incident. However, it could not come up with any visible progress.Asked about the progress of investigation into the incident, Comilla CID’s special police super Dr Nazmul Karim Khan did not make any comment in this regard.
Talking to reporters, Dhaka CID’s special police super Abdul Kahhar Akand, also head of the investigation assistance team of the case, said, “We’ll unearth the mystery behind the murder soon.”
Comilla Medical College Forensic Department’s chief Dr KP Saha, also head of the team who conducted the autopsy on the body of Tonu, said they will form a three-member board to finalise the autopsy report after getting results of all tests.
He, however, did not disclose the names of the tests.
Meanwhile, CID Comilla inspector Gazi M Ibrahim, also investigation officer of the case, had been in Dhaka for the last three days to have discussion with the CID high officials in the capital over the issue.
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Comilla Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment on March 20 after she went of her residence for private tuition.
The victim’s father filed a case against some unidentified people with Kotwali Model Police Station.
The killing of the college student sparked off widespread protests across the country.
The case was transferred to the CID on March 28.
During its investigation, the CID interrogated 38 people, including Tonu’s family members, army personnel and doctors, in six phases.
