A section of unscrupulous people are publishing and selling
substandard notebooks despite government ban.
According to informed sources, a section of dishonest men are doing
business at Chuadanga, Meherpur and Kushtia under greater Kushtia
district markets where notebooks are being sold at high prices.
It may be mentioned that government prohibited publication of
notebooks up to class seven a few years back.
Teachers and guardians alleged that thin notebooks with numerous
errors and distortion of facts are being sold to the students.
Local people said due to lack of proper attention of the teachers in
the classrooms and standard notebooks, the guardians are forced to
appoint private tutors while the poor students are compelled to depend
on substandard notebooks.
Meanwhile, guardians and the local educationists have urged the
concerned authority to take steps against publication of substandard
notebooks and allow publication of standard notebooks with the
approval of Text Book Board authorities. -Our Correspondent
