‘Oggyan party’-men including bank cashier arrested

Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested five members of “Oggyan Party’ syndicate, including a cashier of Sonali bank, from the city’s Motijheel area on early Wednesday.
The arrested gang members are-its alleged ring leader Md Abul Bashar, a cashier of Sonali Bank Motijheel Branch, Abdul Matin alias Oggan Matin, Md Selim, Md Shimul and Abul Hossain.
Acting on a tip-off, a DB team arrested the five people from Motijheel area conducting simultaneous drives on Wednesday early morning.The detectives recovered 1800 pierces of Ativan tablets from Bashar’s possessions.
Briefing to reporters at DMP Media centre on Wednesday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said arrested Bashar has been running a pharmacy shop “Gauchhia pharmacy’ at Motijheel culvert road along side his Sonali Bank job. He used to supply Ativan tablets to the members of Oggyan party from his pharmecy, he said.
Ativan tablets is a contraband item. It is being imported from India and Pakistan illegally. Bashar had been collected the contraband tablets from frontier area and supply those to the members of ‘Oggyan party’ at a high price, the Joint Commissioner (DB) said.
He said the detectives so far arrested 54 members of ‘Oggyan party’ this year. Of them, 25 of the gangsters revealed that they had been collecting the tablets, usand used those for fainting people, from Bashar, Monirul added.
During interrogation, the arrested people revealed that they were involved in looting valuables from passengers of launch ghats, bus and railway stations after feeding them seductive tablets contaminated foods or drinks. – News Desk
