Khaleda aides among 28 BNP leaders under warrant

A Dhaka court on Wednesday issued arrest warrant for 28 ‘fugitive’ BNP leaders, including Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and Amanullah Aman, in a case filed with
Mirpur Model Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
Judge Mohammad Quamrul Hossain Mollah of the Metropolitan Special Trubunal-1 of Dhaka passed the order taking the case into cognizance.The other accused BNP men are: Mamun Hasan, President of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, Press Secretary of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Samsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Special Assistant of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, former President of Chhatra Dal, Habibunabi Khan Sohel, President of Swechchashebak Dal, Azizul Bari Helal and Saiful Islam.
Besides, the court directed the Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station to submit the compliance report by August 26.
On January 30, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus of ‘Bahan Paribahan’ in front of Hakkani Mishon Biddyapith near Kallayanpur Natun Bazar Road area under Mirpur Thana during the shutdown and blockade programme enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance. Several passengers sustained burn injuries in the arson attack.
Swapan Kumar Mandal, assistant sub-inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station, filed a case against 32 identified BNP men and 50 unidentified people in this connection.
Among the identified BNP men, 28 remained absconding, two, including BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, are behind the bar while two others secured bail from the court.
Later, police submitted the charge sheet against 32 people in connection with the case in April. – Special Representative
