Dhaka, Dec 4 – The Bd opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front on Tuesday decided to form 300 coordination committees based on constituency across the country to coordinate the forthcoming elections slated for December 30. The decision has been taken at a joint meeting of the central coordination committee at the alliance office at Bijoynagar in the city.
BNP vice chairman and chief coordinator of the Jatiya Oikya front Barkatullah Bulu said the meeting decided to form constituency based coordination committees across the country instead of Upazila based committees.
He said the meeting also discussed the update over the formation of coordination committee at district levels.
Jatiya Oikya Front leader said the meeting expressed concerned over the filing of new what he said false cases and arresting party leaders and activists and conducting police drives at homes of possible polling agents of the Oikya Front candidates.
He said the meeting also expressed concern as ‘politically biased administrative officers and police officials were not transferred and EC’s attitude to the opposition was not changed.
The meeting agreed that there is no minimum level playing field for the election in the country, he said.
BNP leader and city coordinator of Jatiya Oikya Front Abdus Salam said the meeting demanded the government and the EC to stop arresting of opposition leaders and activists.
He said the meeting also called upon the EC to consider the candidatures of the BNP and Oikya Front leaders who were deprived on little pleas.
Salam, who presided over the meeting, said the meeting called upon the all the opposition leaders and activists to work together in favour of the Oikya Front leaders.
Representatives of alliance partners were present at the meeting began at 4:00 pm and lasted about two hours.
The Jatiya Oikya Front was formed on October 13 comprising five political parties-BNP, Gano Forum, JSD, Nagorik Oikya and Jatiya Oikya with a seven-point charter of demands including holding the next general election under a neutral administration and dissolution of Parliament before the polls.
Later, Bangabir Kader Siddiqui led Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League joined the opposition platform.
On November 11, the Jatiya Oikya Front announced that it would participate in the upcoming election as part of its movement to restore democracy despite an ‘adverse situation’ prevailing in the country. – Staff Reporter
