A man drowned as a boat capsized in the Jamuna river in Saghata upazila during storm
on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain.
Police said at least 20 small boats capsized in the Jamuna river near Hasilkandi village as
a storm swept over the uapzila around 1 pm, leaving Ismail dead and Mafu Miah injured.
Meanwhile, a boy named Mohan Miah was injured in the same village as a branch of a
tree fell on him during the storm. -UNB, Gaibandha
5 lakh contraband Indian tablets seized in Gaibandha
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive recovered 5 lakh contraband Indian
tablets used for cow fattening from a shop at Rajmati market in Gobindaganj upazila on
Saturday night.
Rab sources said, being tipped-off, a team of Rab-5 conducted a drive in the market at
night and recovered the tablets from a godown of the shop.
But owner of the godown fled the scene sensing the presence of Rab.
A case was filed with Gobindaganj Police Station.
Police said smugglers brought the tablets from India ahead of Eid-ul-Azha for selling
