Smuggled goods worth Tk 62 cr seized in 6 months in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members seized smuggled goods worth Tk 62 crore
from different borders here in the last six months.
23 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Taif Ul Haque said they seized the contraband
goods in various drives launched at Putkhali, Koira and Daulatpur borders from March 1
to August 31.
The seized goods include 16,269 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup, 4,537 bottles of
different liquors, 61,700 pieces of sex stimulating tablets, 1,600 kgs of hemp, 3,800 kg’s
of heroin, 156 tolas of gold, Indian three-piece sets, saree, and other items.
The border guards have also seized eight shooter guns, six pistols and explosives at the
same period. The border force has strengthened its watch on the border so that arms and
weapons cannot enter the country ahead of the next general elections, he added.
Meanwhile, BGB members also arrested 683 Bangladeshi people for their attempt to go
to India illegally and nine Indian nationals for intrusion during the same period.
Three women traffickers were also arrested from the border areas. -UNB, Benapole
