One held 50kg explosives recovered at Keraniganj

Members of Criminal Investigation Department of police on Tuesday arrested a man along with 50 kg explosives from Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital. The arrestee was identified as Swapan, 40. Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Masudur Rahman of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident. He said a special CID team conducted a drive at Keraniganj in the afternoon and arrested Swapan along with the explosives. Tipped off, a team of CID’s Organised Crime led by ASP Syful Islam conducted the drive at a Jinjira Bazar godown in Keraniganj around 3:40 pm and recovered the explosives, CID sources said. The team also arrested the manager of the godwon, Swapan, son of late Horey Krisna Roy of Kathalia in Jhalakati. Md Shahjahan, 55, owner of the godwon was not there during the drive. According to the CID sources, Shahjan has been selling explosives to militant groups after storing those in the godwon. “Around 1000 strong bombs could be made from the recovered explosives,” a CID officer claimed. – UNB
