A man was killed and 60 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Chhatak upazila on Monday.The deceased was identified as Noor Mia, 22, of Ulurgaon village of the upazila.
Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Rais Ali and Aslam Ali of the village over establishing supremacy in the area.
The clash ensued following an altercation between supporters of both the groups over a trifling matter at the village in the morning.
At one stage, both the groups equipped with home-made arms attacked each and another, leaving 61 people, including Noor Mia, injured.
Some of the critically injured were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where attending doctor declared Noor dead.
Chhatak Police Station officer-in-charge Shahjalal Munshi confirmed the incident.
