One killed, another hurt in Laxmipur ‘gunfight’ with cops

Dhaka – An alleged robber was killed and another injured in separate ‘gunfights’ with police in Raipur and Sadar upazilas of Laxmipur district early Tuesday, UNB news agency reported.In Raipur, suspected robber Alamgir Hossain, son of Tajul Islam, was killed in what law enforcers claimed a gunfight with police in Dakshin Raipur area early in the morning.
Informed that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of police launched a drive in the area, said Md Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station.
Sensing presence of police, the gang members opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
Alamgir was caught in the line of fire and received injuries.
Later he was rushed to Raipur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Besides, five policemen, including Sub-inspector Faruk Hossain and constables– Safiqur Rahman, Towhidul Islam, Omar faruk and Dipok Chandra Saha, were injured in the incident.
Police recovered an LG and three rounds of bullet from the scene.
Accused in seven robbery cases, Alamgir was an infamous robber in the upazila, added the OC.
In Sadar upazila, an alleged robber, Ershad Hossain, received injuries in a reported gunfight between his gang and police in Dakshin Hamchadi area early in the morning.
The injured robber was admitted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident, said Abdullah Al Mamum, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Police also recovered a pistol and two rounds of bullet from the spot.
