The Indian authorities have been diverting water and so Bangladesh get only 10 percent water at the Teesta Barrage. The Teesta is supposed to have 5,000 cusecs water at the time but we receive only 500 cusecs that is the lowest in the river’s history. Our government has failed to have an arrangement to prevent this from happening.
The Teesta Barrage in Bangladesh was build considering the irrigation of 6 districts in the northern regions of Bangladesh and around 60,500 hectares of agriculture land of the 12 upazila’s of Nilphamari, Rangpur, Dinajpur are in severe problem due to lack of water for irrigation.
Recently our government has said that they will bring electricity from India though we know it will cost a huge amount of money. In the last few years many text books have been printed from India and also many commodities are coming to Bangladesh illegally with bad impacts on many of our local industries. Earlier, no text books used to be printed from India.
Citizens of Bangladesh have been killed at the boarders and such incidents are noted very often. The People are waiting to see what the government are going to do next to overcome the problems.
