The BNP-led 18-party alliance enforced a non-stop hartal in Comilla-9 constituency (Laksam and Monaharganj upazilas) on Monday demanding that two opposition leaders allegedly picked up law enforcers be traced and released. Meanwhile, the opposition combine on Monday called non-stop hartal in Nangalkot upazila from Tuesday on the same demand. Nurul Amin Jasim, president of Nangalkot municipality unit BNP, announced the shutdown at a press conference at the local BNP office. BNP sources said members of the law enforcement agencies picked up its Laksam upazila unit president and former MP Saiful Islam Hiru, poura BNP chief Humayun Kabir Parvez and Jasim Uddin on their way to Comilla Medical College to see the injured party men on Wednesday night. Rapid Action Battalion-11 handed Jasim to Laksam Police Station. However, the two other BNP leaders remained traceless. Away in Khulna, local unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called a daylong hartal in Terakhada upazila for Tuesday in protest against the arrest of the upazila unit ameer Maulana Kabirul Islam. In a statement, SM Enamul Haque, publicity affairs secretary of Khulna district (north) unit Jamaat, announced the shutdown. Earlier in the day, police in a drive arrested Kabirul Islam from his Anandanagar residence in the upazila. – UNB
