Dhaka, Nov 5 – The newly formed Jatiya Oikya Front will stage a huge showdown through its public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city this afternoon couple of days ahead of announcing the poll schedule for the next general elections. Organizers said they expected that hundreds and thousands of people including party leaders and activists would join the meeting front different parts of the city and its adjacent districts.
BNP vice chairman Barkatullah Bulu said the Dhaka city will be turned into a human sea centring the public meeting as the people from different spare of life including alliance leaders and activists want to join it demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“It will be the biggest gathering of recent times as people are aggrieved to the government and they want to join the meeting,” he said.
Police have already given permission to the opposition alliance hold the rally scheduled to be held at 2:00 pm.
Top leaders of alliance partners-Dr Kamal Hossain of Gano Forum, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain of BNP, ASM Abdur Rab of Jasad, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Bangabir Kader Siddiqui of Krishak Sramik Janata League, and Sultan Mohammed Mansur of Jatiya Oikya Prokriya will address the meeting.
Earlier, an Oikya Front delegation led by BNP chairperson’s adviser Abul Khair went to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for police permission for the meeting. The other members of the team included BNP publicity secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anie and organizing secretary Abdus
Salam Azad.
It will be the third public meeting of the opposition alliance after its formation on October 13. Earlier it held two public meetings in Sylhet and Chittagong.
The Oikya Front will also hold a public meeting in Rajshahi on November 9, according to party sources.
The public meeting is going to be held side by side the ongoing dialogue with the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance to hold the next elections under a neutral administration.
A senior said the Oikya Front is likely to announce a fresh course of political action from the meeting.
An Oikya Front leader hinted that they unlikely to go for a hardline programme as they are going to sit with the Prime Minister again to resolve the current political impasse through talks, he said.
He further said the steering committee of the Oikya Front at a meeting yesterday discussed the latest development in the political arena and possible course of action. – Staff Reporter
