Papia files GD over audio

BNP MP Syeda Ashifa Ashrafi Papia has filed a general diary against a Bangladeshi expatriate in the United States.
Papia in the GD filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police in Dhaka accused Md Nazmul Haque Helal of digitally impersonating her voice to make an audio containing demeaning comment on the party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.

She demanded that action be taken against Helal, a resident from Oregon, under Information and Communication Technology Act.

“My voice was imitated through super impose, voice editing, cutting and posting. He created a fake phone call to damage my image.”
The GD said the fake audio was then released on Facebook, Soundcloud and YouTube.

The audio went viral on social media sites where the Papia can be heard making derogative comments about Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The audio prompted a broom procession for her expulsion by the BNP’s youth front Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal in Chapainawabganj where she is BNP’s Secretary General.

The residence and business of Chapainawabganj’s Juba Dal President were reportedly attacked following that. Two cases were filed that accused Papia and 43 others for the attacks.

“It must be mentioned that I have never made negative comments about my party’s leadership in any of my phone conversations, Parliament speech and talk show discussions. I request that legal action be taken for the crime I have mentioned.”
