People will stop them if terrorist activities don’t end: Hanif

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Saturday said a movement cannot be carried out by carrying out sniper attacks and strongly criticised the BNP for its ongoing countrywide transport blockade.
“Sniper attacks only create panic in public minds… no movement can be carried out through clandestine attacks,” he said.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32, marking the historic Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu. Referring to the current non-stop countrywide blockade, Hanif said ‘people would resist BNP if they do not stop their sniper attacks and terrorist activities in the name of movement’.
About the telephonic conversations between BNP chief Khaleda Zia and India’s ruling party BJP chief Amit Shah, Hanif said, “There had been no such conversations between Khaleda Zia and Amit Shah. Instead, attempts were made from Khaleda’s political office twice through phone. But, there had been no conversation, as Amit’s phone was not functional at that time.”
Such false statement only tarnishes the country’s image, he added. – UNB
