PM Hasina gets Global Women Leadership Award

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday received the Global Women Leadership Award at an event at International Convention Centre (ICC) here.

US-based NGO Global Summit of Women honoured her with the award for her outstanding leadership in advancing women education and women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, Asia and Asia-pacific region.

President of the Summit Irene Natividad handed over the award, a lifetime honour, to Sheikh Hasina at the Global Women’s Leadership Award Gala Dinner on Friday evening (local time).

Several thousand women delegates, who came to Sydney from across the world to join ‘2018 Global Summit of Women being held on April 26-28, stood up to show respect to the Prime Minister when she was receiving the award.

Earlier, a brief introduction of Sheikh Hasina and a short video presentation on her were made at the event.

The video presentation focused on her contributions to women empowerment, policies and measures taken by her government in this regard, as well as economic development of Bangladesh under her government.

The Prime Minister also delivered her speech highlighting women empowerment, equal rights, bringing women in the mainstream of development, steps taken by the government and achievements made so far.

Former Governor General of Australia Dame Quentin Bryce and Chief Executive of Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council of Australia Andrea Mason were also given the Australia’s Women’s Leadership Award on the occasion.

Summit President Irene Natividad gave an introduction on the awards, while vice president of Sung Joo Foundation (sponsor of the event) Aejoo Choo made the opening remarks.

Gemma Lyon and Kyle Mercado delivered musical performance.

The Global Summit of Women focuses on women’s advancement in the global economy. For over 27 years, the Summit has been connecting women worldwide.
