PM hints at JS dissolution for fresh polls in case of compromise

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday hinted that she might request for dissolution of Parliament for a fresh election if there is any

compromise with the opposition. “But she (Khaleda Zia) has to stop killing and blockade, she has to leave the company of Jamaat for any
dialogue. If there’s any compromise, we’ll dissolve Parliament, if necessary, for holding the election again,” she said. The Prime
Minister came up with the remarks in her introductory speech at a meeting of AL Election Steering Committee at her official residence
Ganobhaban. Talking about the next election, Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, said the opposition party has
already missed the train. “The election process has started and she (Khaleda) missed the train as she didn’t come to the election,” she
said. About the ongoing talks between the two parties, the Awami League chief said the dialogue is on and it would continue. “The
dialogue will continue after the election.” If the two parties could reach a compromise after the election, Hasina said, she would request
for dissolution of Parliament. “Then we’ll hold another election,” she said. About the current election, the Prime Minister said the polls
will be held as per the Constitution. “The election will be free, fair and neutral,” she said. The premier urged the opposition leader to
stop destructive politics, including killing, or else, she warned the government will have to be tough. “If you don’t do that, we’ll have to
get tough to save the lives and property of people. We’ll be stringent as much as it is needed,” she said adding, “Everything has its limit…
we have our patience, but it also has its limit. We won’t tolerate it anymore.” Hasina said the government would not allow anyone to play
with the fate of people and that is the fact. – UNB
