PM shows ego, power, not doing regular duties: B Chy

Blaming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the country’s current political crisis, Bikolpa Dhara Bangladesh president (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Sunday said the Prime Minister is showing off her power and egoism instead of serving regular duties after assuming office this time.
The BDB president came up with the remarks at a discussion arranged by Bangladesh Civil Rights Society at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
He said the Prime Minister had said the January-5 election was held to maintain constitutional continuity, but her government is now reneging on the commitment to arrange fresh polls.Alleging that the unelected government is not performing its duties, he said, “We desire for an elected government and we want fresh polls where all the parties will participate and the voters will enjoy independence to elect their candidates.”
Mentioning that no one appreciates extrajudicial killings or killing by arson attacks, B Chowdhury said the High Court should issue a rule to find out how many people have been killed in arson attacks and extrajudicial means, and how many have faced enforced disappearances or abductions.
“Nobody is safe now as state-sponsored terrorism, including enforced disappearances, abductions and killings, prevails in the country,” he added.
Criticising the Prime Minister’s remark over ‘missing’ BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, he said her remarks about a political leader and former state minister is the manifestation of her (PM) ‘arrogance, egotism and power’.
Former Dhaka University Vice chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahamed, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Sawkat Mahmud, among others, spoke at the programme. – Unb
