BNP accuses PM of lobbying with India to remain in power

Dhaka, May 27 – The BNP yesterday accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of going to India to negotiate with the neighboring country and seek their cooperation for surviving in power.“The mass media reports made it clear that Sheikh Hasina (PM) went to India not for Bangladesh’s interest, not for water of Teesta river and stopping killings along the border but to negotiate for clinging to power,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press briefing at party headquarters.
He said, according to media reports, the Prime Minister went to India spending money from government exchequer to negotiate with the Indian government to cling to power.
Referring to Anandabazar report, he said the present government gave away everything to India compromising Bangladesh’s interests but in exchange of got nothing. But in return the Prime Minister sought cooperation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cling to her power, he mentioned.
“She (PM) went to the ruling party’s (Awami League) usual shelter in India to ensure holding another January 5, 2014, like a lopsided general election to keep up the ‘illegal power’.
His comments came a day after the premier returned home after a two-day visit to the West Bengal state of India.
The BNP leader alleged that the internationally recognized ‘autocrat’ government is now started lobbying with her masters excluding the people of her own country in fear of losing power.
He said the prime minister could understand that people are ready to give a befitting reply to the misrule of her government.
The bell of her departure is ringing. There won’t be the benefit to negotiate and request to masters bypassing the people of the country. All power belongs to the people, he said.
Rizvi asserted that the next elections should be held in a free and fair manner and participation of all political parties.
The next election should be held under a neutral government and there will be no election I the country without BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. The BNP will take part in the polls under her leadership, he said.
He called upon the government to release Khaleda immediately, hand over power to a neutral government by dissolving parliament to ensure democratic process in the country.
