Poet Rafiq Azad dies

Noted poet Rafiq Azad died at the age of 76 at a hostpital in Dhaka today (Saturday).The freedom-fighter poet breathed his last at 2:10pm at the city’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital (BSMMU) hospital.
Earlier on 15 January, he was admitted to the BSMMU hospital following a brain hemorrhage.BSMMU physician Harisul Haque said Rafiq Azad had been undergoing treatment at ICU unit of the hospital for 58 days.The renowned poet was awarded with Bangla Academy Award in 1981 and Ekushey Padak in 2013 for his invaluable works in Bangla literature.
He was also honoured with many other awards, including Poet Alaol Award in 1981, Poet Ahsan Habib Award in 1991 and Poet Hasan Hafizur Rahman Award in 1996, and Notable Freedom Fighter Award in 1997.
