Police chief asks field officers to contain militancy

Dhaka – Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque ordered the filed level police officials to give most priority to contain militancy and abuse of illegal drugs taking those as two big challenges.
The IGP was asked about his directives given to the filed level officers during on-going Police Week 2016 at Rajarbagh police lines ground after distributing IGP’s exemplary good services badge among the police personnel for their outstanding contributions to maintaining law and order in the country in 2015.The IGP said he also asked the police officials to take legal action against drugs peddlers showing zero tolerance.
About militancy, the IGP said he instructed the police officers to create awareness among the masses of the people, including Ulama and Madrasa students against militancy.
‘I also instructed the police officers to motivate them (mass people) as well as to make them understand that militancy will bring destruction to the country.
‘ Make the people aware in such a way so that no militant can stay at any place even rented residences,’ the IGP said as he ordered the police officers.
About allegation of harassing innocent people, the chief of police said he also ordered the police officers to establish rule of law so that no innocent people become victim through loopholes of the laws.
“I also ordered them to do whatever they (police officers) felt needed to give legal assistance to the people,” the IGP added. -News Desk
