Dhaka-The BNP yesterday reiterated its demand for judicial inquiry into all the “extrajudicial killings” including the death of prime suspect in a case filed for attempting to murder a teacher in Madaripur.“We have always opposed extra-judicial killing. We reiterate our demand for judicial probe into all such killings. The killing in the custody of law enforcers should be stopped immediately,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan central office, he termed the death of Golam Faizullah Fahim in an alleged crossfire a “drama” and claimed that the death of crucial suspect in crossfire has been staged to hide the fact.
The BNP leader’s comment came a day after the killing of Fahim, 18, the Madaripur teacher’s attacker, in a crossfire that sparked widespread questions, condemnation and criticism.
Mirza Alamgir said the police get the licence of killing people unlawfully once threat of killing in the so-called crossfire came from the government side.
“The police make maximum use of threat of cross-fire coming from the prime minister,” he said.
The BNP secretary general termed the killing of Fahim in crossfire as an extrajudicial killing and said the nation cannot accept such a killing after taking in remand.
“It is clear that people could know the fact if they were brought under justice. Now question has been arisen through this incident whether the government is involved with them (militants), he added.
He criticized the prime minister’s statement on BNP senior vice chairman Tarique saying that she (PM) is trying to shift the public anger created by the most recent mass arrest and incidents of crossfire by making negative remarks about him.
Fakhrul termed the prime minister’s statement against Tarique Rahman as “vulgar, false, provocative and exposure of vengeance and protested her statement.
He said the premier annoyed with Tarique Rahman since he has obtained a strong position in Bangladesh’s politics despite what he said many criticism and campaign by her against Tarique.
Rejecting the allegation of threatening premier’s niece Tulip by Tarique, he said one cannot protect him/her from justice by making such threat in a developed democratic country like the UK.
“We are condemning this kind of extra-judicial judicial killing on a regular basis.”
The prime minister at an iftar mahfil organised by a portion of BFUJ and DUJ on Saturday called the BNP’s senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman as scoundrel and alleged that he is making threat to Tulip and hatching conspiracy.
He also termed the prime minister’s statement against Tariue Rahman audacious and immature.
Alamgir also reiterated his call to take the initiative for holding a free, fair and inclusive election by forming an appropriate Election Commission.
BNP standging committee members—Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, among others were present at the press conference.-STAFF REPORTER
