Dhaka-A Dhaka court once again rejected the bail petition of Mahfujur Rashid Ferdous, Associate Professor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, on Sunday afternoon, in a case filed on the charge of sexual harassment of some female students of the university.Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order on Sunday after hearing.
On May 16, another Dhaka court had denied bail to Mahfujur Rashid. Before that, on May 7, he admitted his offence to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Qazi Kamrul Islam of Dhaka. The court sent him to the jail, recording his confessional statement.
Meanwhile, the authorities of the university expelled Mahfujur Rashid on May 9. The University’s alumnus and brother of a victim, Asafudoullah Sayem lodged the case with Kalabagan Police Station on May 3 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Earlier, Mahfujur Rashid was suspended on April 30 after the students placed documentary evidence of sexual harassment against him. The teacher was also working as an assistant proctor of the university. The university authorities have launched an inquiry into the allegations.
A former student of the university, Mahfujur Rashid joined the EEE Department as a lecturer on May 19, 2001. His wife is also teacher of this university.-Court Correspondent
