Police have launched a hunt for two SUVs that entered into Bangladesh through Sylhet’s Bianibazar Upazila.
The two cars carrying passengers entered Bangladesh from Sutarkandi check post evading immigration around 9.15am on Thursday, said Md Ibrahim Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Sylhet.Col Hafiz Ahsan Farid, Deputy Director General (Operation and Training) of Border Guard Bangladesh, said there were three people on the cars. They are Bangladeshi nationals holding British passports, he said quoting the officials manning check post of Indian Border Security Force. According to the Indian immigration, these people were identified as Kabul Miah, Ajgar Uddin and Antor Ali.Col Hafiz said the SUVs were brand-new and one of the occupants ran a car business. One has to pay 300 per cent tax to import a brand-new car.
Police claim that these people avoided immigration to evade tax. Police and the detective branch have been informed of the matter and they have already started searching for the cars, the BGB official said.He said the law enforcers were conducting raids in three upazilas in the border area. –Correspondent, Sylhet
