Police must use firearms when necessary: Rab DG

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) director general Benazir Ahmed on Sunday said police must use firearms for security reasons when necessary, for example in self-defence.
“Police was not given arms to play ‘hadudu’ and must fire, if needed, for security reasons,” he said. The Rab chief, also former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), came up with the remarks while talking to reporters during his visit to the Rab-6 office in Khulna.
He also alleged that an organised quarter is deliberately destabilising the country in their own interests, and the law enforcement agencies would overcome it with the people’s cooperation.
Benazir also denied the existence of extrajudicial killing in Bangladesh, saying “there is no extra-judicial killing in the country, it is rather a cheap and buzzing word.”
“A certain quarter is spreading that extra-judicial killing has been taking place,” he alleged.
