Police officer escapes attackers firing from revolver

Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) Humayun Kabir said he was on his way to his office from the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday when he saw 15 to 20 men armed with sharp weapons standing near the Keranipara intersection bridge.
He got off his vehicle and began questioning the men when they began to beat him.
ASP Kabir said he fired a shot from his revolver in self-defence, hitting Zippo, 22. The rest dropped their weapons and fled.
Police later went to the site and recovered 10 machetes.
Zippo has been arrested and admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital. ASP Kabir has also been given primary medical care.
A tender was to be floated in Rangpur’s Radhaballav, close to Keranipara intersection, for the Public Works Department (PWD), the ASP said.
Additional police was deployed in the city in anticipation of untoward incidents.
Police suspect the men had gathered to hijack the tender.-bdnews24.com
