Polls under present Govt, no caretaker: Tofail

AL senior MP Tofail Ahmed on Thursday categorically said the next national election will be held under the present government, not under any caretaker administration.“The next election will be held under the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said while taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget in Parliament.
Tofail also said it has been proved after the elections to four city corporations -– Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal — that the next general election could be held under the present government in a free, fair and neutral manner.
Regarding opposition BNP’s demand for restoring the caretaker government, the Awami League leader said there is no justification for it.
Tofail also said if BNP could be rigid on its stance that they will not participate in the election without the caretaker government, Awami League can also say it will not join the election under that caretaker system.
The former minister also criticised opposition leader Khaleda Zia for saying that the four city corporation elections were not free and fair, although they won the polls.
“Was it justified to say this when the opposition-backed candidates have won the elections?” he questioned.
Referring to BNP MP Barrister Moudud Ahmed’s remarks that the opposition will not participate in the next election without caretaker government, Tofail said, “They’ll and I’m sure about it.” (Source: UNB)
