Porno websites to be listed, not viewers: Tarana

Dhaka – Mentioning that the government is bound to protect the personal information of people, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Tuesday said her ministry will make the list of pornographic websites, not the porno viewers.
She made the remark at a status she posted on her official Facebook page.In her FB status, the junior minister said, “I never said to make the list of the porno viewers. Technically, it’s not possible. We’re bound and committed to protecting the personal information of people.”
Tarana also came down heavily on the netizens of the country for trolling on social media site Facebook following a news item saying the names of porno users will be made public.
“It’s a matter of great sorrow that some people started posting negative status and to make trolls in the Facebook without verifying the news. Some of them crossed the limit of curtsey and decorum.”
Mentioning that every person has the freedom of expression, Tarana said, “People have the rights to identify our mistakes, but they don’t have any right to insult anyone without knowing the fact.”
Tarana said her ministry has already formed a committee to block the porno sites in Bangladesh. “The committee will publish a list of porno sites (not the list of porn viewers),” she added.
Recently, a news item went viral on Facebook that the government is planning to develop a mechanism to reveal the internet pornographic consumers in Bangladesh.
Following this, Facebook users updated their status posting harsh remarks against Tarana Halim and her ministry. – UNB
