Preparations complete to hold upazila polls in Gaibandha

All-out preparations have been completed by the administration to hold the 4th Upazila Polls in third phase in Palashbari upazila in the district on February 27 in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
The polling will start at 8 am and will continue 4 pm without any break. A public holiday has been announced in the upazila on the election day to enable the voters to exercise their rights, sources said.As many as 1,68,537 voters including 87,419 female ones would cast their votes in 63 centres with 416 booths in the upazila in the second phase of the upazila polls like other parts of the country, said UNO Mahbubul Haque and assistant returning officer.
A total of nine candidates for chairmanship, seven for vice chairmanship and three candidates for female vice chairmanship are contesting the elections, he also said.All concerned including the members of the law enforcement agencies and the officials have been asked to discharge their duties neutrally, said deputy commissioner M Ehsan-E-Elahi.Members of the army, RAB, BGB including other law enforcers will be deployed so that the voters could cast their votes without any difficulties, said police super M Tofazzel Hossain.Mobile and summary courts in the polling centres would instantly try the violators of law during the polling. A magistrate will accompany each team, said district election officer M Shahinoor Islam Pramanik.Movement of vehicles like motorcycle, baby taxi, microbus, jeep, pickup van, car, bus and trucks in the constituencies has been banned from midnight of the polls day till next midnight to ensure peaceful election.Additional deputy commissioner (General) and returning officer Abu Bakar Siddique told the BSS that all officials and employees concerned at all levels had been working relentlessly for holding the polls in a free, fair, transparent, impartial and credible manner. -BSS
